Translations Opening Photos

That's me! It was nice to see some of my pieces again. Some people thought this looked like a hide. I liked the circle I drew on it. That is something I have not done on any other piece.
Cassie Tondro and our work.
A little taste o the drumming circle outside of the gallery. And the door wide open on a marvelous, warm, May evening.

Translations Gallery Moves to a New Space

Ordinary Alchemy, my show with Cassie Tondro, will be the first opening in a new space for Translations Gallery. The new space, up the street from the old space, is more industrial in appearance and a better gallery space. Art studios and a video production company also reside in the building. It is exciting to think of a gallery in building where art is made, not just exchanged.

The new space opening party coincides with the exhibition opening for Ordinary Alchemy on May 9th.

The new address will be effective May 1st:

Translations Gallery
855 Inca St.

Exhibit at Translations Gallery

Kate Merkel and Judy Hagler of Translations Gallery in Denver offered me a show. The dates will be May 9-June7, 2008. I will be paired with gallery artist Cassandra Tondro who does paintings and compositions with earth pigments, natural dyes and stains from decomposed vegetables, on raw canvas. I wrote about Cassie early in the blog. It is exciting to be paired with her. Her latest paintings are poured latex and have a wonderful feeling taking a pure slice of earth to reveal stratas. The stratas are just a bit surreal with wonderful movement.

Cassandra Tondro

Cassandra Tondro uses nature to decompose her images. She dances the fine artistic line between control and loss of control. Letting nature take its course she produces sublime textures on canvas. Of course, she exercises control of the final composition. These pieces are large and must feel otherworldly when you walk toward the real piece. See more of her “Decomposition “ series at her web site. Her blog shows some images of a new landscape series inspired by “An Inconvenient Truth”.
